I've made my Blackberry Bold SIM-unlocked, because the Blackberry I bought in Japan was locked to NTT DoCoMo, a Japanese mobile phone carrier, so when I was abroad I had to fear the phone bill charging highly expensive roaming prices.
Unlocking was easy: I got an unlock code for my device at http://expressunlockcode.com/bbexpress.aspx by paying $19.99 and giving the IMEI for my device, phone model, carrier name locked to and my country to the unlock code provider. Several hours later from paying I got an unlock code for the IMEI I gave. Then I unlocked it by following the instructions at http://www.mobileslate.com/blog/2008/11/14/how-to-unlock-rim-blackberry-9000-bold/. Once unlocked, you can use not only NTT DoCoMo's SIM card but Softbank's, as shown in the above picture.
(Blackberry services aren't available with Softbank's SIM card, though)
Did it void the warranty on the phone?
Of course there's no longer warranty on the phone once you unlock it because unlocking is not accepted by the operator, so please do it at your own risk.

Can you use softbank 3G network service on your unlock bold, say web browser?
Konnichiwa, musou2019san. Yes I can see web sites with the internet browser of my unlocked Blackberry using Softbank 3G network, if correct access point for Softbank is set up to it. Actually I did only capture the Softbank signal on standby mode and did not try to use the browser, though.
Good evening. After you unlocked it, were you able to use BIS with your docomo or other SIM card?
I didn't try yet with other SIM card, but BIS still works with DoCoMo SIM card.
I have to agree with the article. It really makes tons of sense. It blows my mind at how dumb people are. On point, have ya'll seen Sprint's new phone? The handset is awesome.Not one of the HTC EVO review have been amazing, but still. I would really suggest taking a look at it. I once work retail for Sprint Nextel, and not one of the previous phone, the Blackberry included, have nothing on the EVO. My only concern is the 4G network. I hope it doesnt suck. Anyone used it yet?
